Like the football player underdog who shares the same name, Rudy the bulldog far surpassed expectations at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show agility contest in New York City on Sunday.
Rudy attacked the course, charming viewers with unusual nimbleness for a bulldog.
One might be tempted to cheer, “Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!” as Notre Dame football fans did in the movie about Rudy Ruettiger, the small and slow walk-on (played by Sean Astin) who finally got to play in a real game.
The canine Rudy’s time of 46.63 seconds ― or 51.63 with faults ― pales in comparison to the winning performance of Verb the border collie (watch above). But we have a new favorite underdog now.
